Another woodpecker (Great Spotted) from the same walk in Nonsuch Park as a few days ago — but this time a “proper” one, meaning the kind that looks for insects on trees rather than in the soil. I managed to catch it in action, right in the middle of drilling for food. One interesting thing to note: this species is among the birds that use their largest rear feathers almost like a third leg, helping them stay stable while clinging to vertical surfaces.
