Typically, to see – or rather to have a chance of seeing – a Kingfisher, we travel to WWT Arundel, which is a 1 h 40 m drive away. And when we are lucky enough to spot one, it is usually just a glimpse in flight or a sighting of it perched about 200 metres from the hide. Today, though, I had only about 45 minutes for a quick stroll on Wimbledon Common. I was on the south-west side, along the Beverley Brook Walk, and right at the very beginning I managed to snap this magnificent photo from no more than three metres away. Obviously, I took many, many shots, and the bird was kind enough to give me a few poses, of which I have decided to share three additional ones. In no particular order of preference:
