A very common bird in Yerevan — and in Armenia in general — joins the series of photos featuring everyday birds with local landmark backdrops. I was going to send this photo two days ago but decided to wait and find a more “landmarky” one, as this seemed like just another Soviet monument to the revolution. However, yesterday we visited the ruins of Erebuni Castle, founded in 782 BC, and at the museum I spotted a plate with Armenian cuneiforms — and, surprisingly, the top part of this very building, making it quite landmarky after all. Apparently, Armenian architects had convinced the Soviet bureaucracy that the top section of the structure was actually a tribute to grain.
